The Sun Hydraulics RQGBKDV (RQGBKDV) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. This valve activates by kicking completely open and remaining open when the pressure at the inlet port 1 surpasses the pre-set threshold, allowing an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank port 2. The valve stays open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds that at port 2. To reset, flow from port 1 to port 2 must stop, and the pressure at port 2 should be equal to or greater than that at port 1. With a capacity of up to 50 gpm (200 L/min) and a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), this cartridge is suitable for various applications where quick response times are crucial, typically around 25 ms. The main stage orifice is protected by a stainless steel screen with a mesh size of 150 microns, ensuring durability and reliability in operation. This model is not recommended for load-holding applications due to its design, which requires flow cessation for resetting. It is best utilized on the actuator side of systems; if used on the pump side, pump flow must be halted for resetting purposes. Additionally, back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a ratio of 1:1. The RQGBKDV incorporates Sun's floating style construction, minimizing internal part binding risks due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. The cartridge's corrosion-resistant properties make it ideal for use in harsh environments. Installation specifications include a valve hex size of 1-1/8 inches (28.6 mm) and an installation torque range of 45-50 lbf ft (61-68 Nm). The adjustment screw features an internal hex size of 5/32 inches (4 mm), while the locknut requires a torque of 80-90 lbf in (9-10 Nm).

Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.
What are the tolerances on pressure settings for Sun's pressure control valves?	Pressure setting tolerances are listed in our Performance Data page. A link to this page can also be found in the Additional Resources tab of the applicable product page.
How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
