The Sun Hydraulics RQGBKEV (RQGBKEV) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. This valve activates and remains open once the pressure at inlet port 1 surpasses the set threshold, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. It stays open as long as the pressure at port 1 is higher than that at port 2, resetting only when flow ceases and pressure equalizes between the ports. This model features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, making it unsuitable for load-holding applications. It is engineered for use on the actuator side of a system, where flow must stop for valve reset; if used on the pump side, pump flow must be halted for reset. The RQGBKEV model incorporates Sun's floating style construction to reduce internal part binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. The valve has a cavity size of T-3A and belongs to Series 2 with a capacity of up to 50 gpm (200 L/min). It operates at a maximum pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) with typical response times around 25 ms and minimal leakage rates under specified conditions. The adjustment mechanism allows up to five clockwise turns to increase settings, and its installation torque ranges from 45-50 lbf ft (61-68 Nm). The valve includes an internal hex size adjustment screw and locknut hex size with specific torque requirements. Weighing approximately .50 lb (0.25 kg), it comes with Viton seal kit options for enhanced durability in its intended applications.

Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.
What are the tolerances on pressure settings for Sun's pressure control valves?	Pressure setting tolerances are listed in our Performance Data page. A link to this page can also be found in the Additional Resources tab of the applicable product page.
How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
