The Sun Hydraulics RQGBKWN (Material Number: RQGBKWN) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. This valve is engineered to open completely and maintain an open state once the inlet port 1 pressure surpasses the set threshold, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. The valve remains open as long as pressure at port 1 exceeds that at port 2. To reset, flow must cease from port 1 to port 2, and the pressure at port 2 must be equal or greater than at port 1. These cartridges are interchangeable across all two-port relief systems except pilot reliefs, sharing the same flow path and cavity for a given frame size. The main stage orifice is shielded by a robust 150-micron stainless steel screen, ensuring durability and reliability. This model is not recommended for load-holding applications and is best used on the actuator side of systems due to its reset requirements. If applied on the pump side, the pump flow must be halted for resetting. The back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting in a 1:1 ratio. The corrosion-resistant variants are identified by suffixes AP or LH for external stainless steel or zinc-nickel plated components, respectively. Its floating style construction minimizes internal binding risks due to installation torque or machining variances. The RQGBKWN features a cavity size of T-3A with a series capacity of up to 50 gpm (200 L/min) and can operate under pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar). It has a typical response time of 25 ms and minimal leakage rates at specified viscosities. Adjustments can be made with five clockwise turns, with specific torque values provided for installation and locknut adjustments.

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

  • All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • To reset valve, flow through the cartridge must cease.
  • Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
  • Not suitable for use in load holding applications.
  • Intended for use on the actuator side of the system as flow through the valve must cease for the valve to reset. If used on the pump side of a system, pump flow must be shut off for the valve to reset.
  • Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
  • Corrosion resistant cartridge valves are intended for use in corrosive environments and are identified by the model code suffix /AP for external stainless steel components, or /LH for external zinc-nickel plated components. See the CONFIGURATION section for all options. For further details, please see the Materials of Construction page located under TECH RESOURCES.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
