The Sun Hydraulics RQGBLAN (Material Number: RQGBLAN) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. It activates when the pressure at inlet port 1 surpasses the valve setting, creating an unrestricted flow path to tank port 2 and remains open until the pressure at port 1 drops below that of port 2. The valve is reset by stopping the flow from port 1 to port 2 and ensuring equal or greater pressure at port 2 compared to port 1. It features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, making it unsuitable for load holding applications as it must be on the actuator side of the system for proper resetting. Notably, back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a ratio of 1:1. This corrosion-resistant cartridge incorporates Sun's floating style construction, reducing internal part binding risks due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. With a capacity of up to 50 gpm (200 L/min) and maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), it has a typical response time of 25 ms and minimal leakage rates under specified conditions. The valve can be adjusted with up to five clockwise turns to increase settings, and installation requires specific torque values for optimal performance. Ideal for applications needing sudden relief like portable grain augers, this model offers reliable performance but is not recommended as a primary system relief due to its slower response compared to standard pilot-operated valves.

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.
- All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- To reset valve, flow through the cartridge must cease.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Not suitable for use in load holding applications.
- Intended for use on the actuator side of the system as flow through the valve must cease for the valve to reset. If used on the pump side of a system, pump flow must be shut off for the valve to reset.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- Corrosion resistant cartridge valves are intended for use in corrosive environments and are identified by the model code suffix /AP for external stainless steel components, or /LH for external zinc-nickel plated components. See the CONFIGURATION section for all options. For further details, please see the Materials of Construction page located under TECH RESOURCES.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
