The Sun Hydraulics RQGBLBN (RQGBLBN) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker within a hydraulic system. This valve opens completely and stays open when the inlet port 1 pressure surpasses the valve's set threshold, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. It remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 is greater than at port 2. To reset, the flow from port 1 to port 2 must stop, and the pressure at port 2 should match or exceed that at port 1. The RQGBLBN model features interchangeable components with other two-port relief cartridges of similar frame sizes, ensuring ease of integration and replacement. The main stage orifice is safeguarded by a durable 150-micron stainless steel screen, enhancing its longevity in corrosive environments. However, it is not suitable for load-holding applications and is best used on the actuator side of systems where flow cessation allows for valve resetting. If installed on the pump side, pump flow must be halted for resetting purposes. Notably, back pressure on tank port 2 directly affects valve settings in a one-to-one ratio. The cartridge incorporates floating style construction to minimize internal part binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. With a capacity of up to 50 gpm (200 L/min) and maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), this model provides reliable performance with typical response times around 25 ms and minimal leakage rates under specified conditions. Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.
What are the tolerances on pressure settings for Sun's pressure control valves?	Pressure setting tolerances are listed in our Performance Data page. A link to this page can also be found in the Additional Resources tab of the applicable product page.
How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
