The Sun Hydraulics RQGBLNV (RQGBLNV) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. It activates by fully opening when the inlet pressure at port 1 surpasses the valve setting, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds that at port 2 and resets only when flow ceases and pressure equalizes between the ports. This cartridge is interchangeable with other two-port relief cartridges, excluding pilot reliefs, sharing the same flow path and cavity for a given frame size. It is equipped with a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen but is not suitable for load-holding applications. Its intended use is on the actuator side of systems, where flow must cease for resetting; if applied on the pump side, pump flow must be stopped to reset the valve. The RQGBLNV features corrosion-resistant construction options identified by suffixes AP or LH for external stainless steel or zinc-nickel plated components, respectively. The design incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal part binding due to excessive torque or machining variations. It has a capacity of 50 gpm (200 L/min) and operates under a maximum pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) with typical response times around 25 ms. The maximum leakage rate is specified at 3 in\u00b3/min (50 cc/min) under specific conditions, and adjustments are made via an internal hex screw. The valve's installation requires specific torque values for both the valve and locknut components, ensuring secure fitting during operation.

Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.

How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
