The Sun Hydraulics RQGBOAV (RQGBOAV) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. It opens completely and remains open when the inlet port 1 pressure exceeds the valve setting, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. The valve stays open until the pressure at port 1 drops below that at port 2, at which point it resets only if flow ceases between these ports. All two-port relief cartridges, except pilot reliefs, are interchangeable for a given frame size with identical flow paths and cavities. The main stage orifice has a protective 150-micron stainless steel screen. This valve is not suitable for load holding applications and is intended for use on the actuator side of systems since flow must stop for resetting. If used on the pump side, pump flow must be halted to reset the valve. Back pressure on tank port 2 adds directly to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. Corrosion-resistant versions are available with external stainless steel or zinc-nickel plating options indicated by model code suffixes AP or LH, respectively. Featuring Sun's floating style construction, this design minimizes internal part binding due to excessive torque or machining variations. The RQGBOAV operates with a maximum capacity of 50 gpm (200 L/min) and can handle up to 5000 psi (350 bar). It typically responds within 25 ms and has minimal leakage under specified conditions. The valve's adjustment mechanism allows for five clockwise turns to increase settings, with specific hex sizes and torque requirements detailed for installation and adjustment components. The cartridge comes with Viton seal kits available under part number 990203006.

Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.
What are the tolerances on pressure settings for Sun's pressure control valves?	Pressure setting tolerances are listed in our Performance Data page. A link to this page can also be found in the Additional Resources tab of the applicable product page.
How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
