The Sun Hydraulics RQGBOCN (RQGBOCN) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker within hydraulic systems. This valve completely opens and remains open when the pressure at inlet port 1 surpasses the set threshold, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. It stays open as long as the pressure at port 1 is greater than at port 2, and resets only when flow ceases and pressure equalizes between ports. This cartridge is interchangeable with other 2-port relief cartridges of the same frame size, making it versatile for various applications. It features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, though it is not recommended for load-holding applications. The valve should be used on the actuator side of systems since flow must stop for resetting; if used on the pump side, pump flow must cease for reset functionality. Back pressure on tank port 2 adds directly to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. The RQGBOCN incorporates Sun's floating style construction to reduce internal binding risks due to excessive torque or machining variations. With a capacity of 50 gpm (200 L/min) and maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), its typical response time is approximately 25 ms, with minimal leakage under specified conditions. Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.

How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
