The Sun Hydraulics RQGBODV (RQGBODV) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. It activates by fully opening and maintaining an open state when the pressure at inlet port 1 surpasses the valve setting, providing an unobstructed flow path from port 1 to tank port 2. The valve remains open until the pressure at port 1 falls below or equals the pressure at port 2, necessitating a cessation of flow for resetting. This cartridge is physically and functionally interchangeable with other two-port relief cartridges, except pilot reliefs, and shares the same flow path and cavity for its frame size. The main stage orifice is shielded by a stainless steel screen with a 150-micron rating. This valve is not suitable for load-holding applications and should be utilized on the actuator side of hydraulic systems since flow cessation is required for resetting. If used on the pump side, pump flow must be halted to reset the valve. It features corrosion-resistant components identified by model code suffixes AP or LH, suitable for corrosive environments. The floating style construction minimizes internal part binding due to excessive torque or machining variations. It operates with a maximum capacity of 50 gpm (200 L/min) and can handle pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar). Typical response time stands at 25 ms, with minimal leakage under specified conditions. Adjustments can be made via an internal hex screw, requiring specific torque settings for installation and locknut adjustments. Ideal applications include scenarios like portable grain augers where quick pressure release is crucial for safety. However, its slower response compared to standard pilot-operated reliefs may limit its use as a system relief without additional direct-acting valves as insurance against false tripping.

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.
- All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- To reset valve, flow through the cartridge must cease.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Not suitable for use in load holding applications.
- Intended for use on the actuator side of the system as flow through the valve must cease for the valve to reset. If used on the pump side of a system, pump flow must be shut off for the valve to reset.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- Corrosion resistant cartridge valves are intended for use in corrosive environments and are identified by the model code suffix /AP for external stainless steel components, or /LH for external zinc-nickel plated components. See the CONFIGURATION section for all options. For further details, please see the Materials of Construction page located under TECH RESOURCES.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
