The Sun Hydraulics RQGBOEN (RQGBOEN) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. When the pressure at the inlet port 1 surpasses the valve setting, it fully opens, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. This state continues as long as the pressure at port 1 remains higher than at port 2. To reset, flow must stop, and pressure at port 2 should match or exceed that of port 1. These cartridges are interchangeable with other two-port relief cartridges of the same size and feature a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen. They are not suitable for load-holding applications and are best used on the actuator side of systems since flow must stop for resetting. If used on the pump side, pump flow needs to be halted for resetting. The backpressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting in a 1:1 ratio. The model incorporates Sun's floating style construction to reduce internal part binding from installation torque or machining variations. The RQGBOEN has a capacity of up to 50 gpm (200 L/min) with a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and typical response time of 25 ms. It features minimal leakage rates and allows adjustment through clockwise turns, with specific torque requirements for installation and locknut adjustments. Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).

For Series 1 cartridges configured with an O control (panel mount handknob), a .75 in. (19 mm) diameter hole is required in the panel.

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.

How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
