The Sun Hydraulics RQGBWCV (RQGBWCV) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. When the pressure at inlet port 1 surpasses the valve setting, the valve fully opens, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. This open state is maintained as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds that at port 2. To reset the valve, flow between these ports must stop, and pressure at port 2 should equal or exceed that at port 1. Notably, this valve is not suitable for load-holding applications and is intended for use on the actuator side of systems; if used on the pump side, pump flow must be halted for resetting. The cartridge features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and incorporates Sun's floating style construction to reduce internal binding risks due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. With a capacity of up to 50 gpm (200 L/min) and a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), it offers a typical response time of 25 ms with minimal leakage. The adjustment mechanism includes five clockwise turns to increase settings, with specific hex sizes provided for installation and adjustment tools. This model is corrosion-resistant, available with external stainless steel or zinc-nickel plated components for use in corrosive environments. Its design ensures physical and functional interchangeability among all two-port relief cartridges except pilot reliefs within the same frame size and flow path. The back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a ratio of 1:1, making it versatile for various hydraulic applications where precise control over pressure relief is needed without compromising system integrity.

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.
- All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- To reset valve, flow through the cartridge must cease.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Not suitable for use in load holding applications.
- Intended for use on the actuator side of the system as flow through the valve must cease for the valve to reset. If used on the pump side of a system, pump flow must be shut off for the valve to reset.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- Corrosion resistant cartridge valves are intended for use in corrosive environments and are identified by the model code suffix /AP for external stainless steel components, or /LH for external zinc-nickel plated components. See the CONFIGURATION section for all options. For further details, please see the Materials of Construction page located under TECH RESOURCES.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
