The Sun Hydraulics RQIBCCV (RQIBCCV) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker within hydraulic systems. This valve activates by fully opening and maintaining an open state when the pressure at inlet port 1 surpasses its set threshold, providing an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank port 2. It remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 is greater than at port 2. Resetting the valve requires cessation of flow from port 1 to port 2 and equal or greater pressure at port 2 compared to port 1. These cartridges are interchangeable with other 2-port relief cartridges of the same frame size, sharing identical flow paths and cavities. The main stage orifice is safeguarded by a robust 150-micron stainless steel screen, although it is unsuitable for load-holding applications. It is intended for actuator-side use in systems where flow through the valve must stop for resetting; if applied on the pump side, pump flow must halt for reset. Notably, back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a one-to-one ratio. The model incorporates corrosion-resistant features identifiable by suffixes AP or LH in its model code for external stainless steel or zinc-nickel plated components. The Sun floating style construction minimizes internal binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. With a capacity of up to 100 gpm (380 L/min) and maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), it responds typically within 25 ms and allows minimal leakage under specified conditions. The adjustment mechanism permits fine-tuning with up to five clockwise turns, ensuring precise control over system dynamics.

Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).

Intended for use on the actuator side of the system as flow through the valve must cease for the valve to reset. If used on the pump side of a system, pump flow must be shut off for the valve to reset.

Corrosion resistant cartridge valves are intended for use in corrosive environments and are identified by the model code suffix /AP for external stainless steel components, or /LH for external zinc-nickel plated components. Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.
What are the tolerances on pressure settings for Sun's pressure control valves?	Pressure setting tolerances are listed in our Performance Data page. A link to this page can also be found in the Additional Resources tab of the applicable product page.
How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
