The Sun Hydraulics RQIBLDN (RQIBLDN) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. When the pressure at the inlet port 1 exceeds the valve setting, the valve kicks open and remains open, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. The valve stays open as long as the pressure at port 1 is greater than at port 2, and it resets when flow ceases and pressure at port 2 equals or exceeds that at port 1. This cartridge is physically and functionally interchangeable with other two-port relief cartridges of the same frame size but is not suitable for load-holding applications. It is intended for use on the actuator side of hydraulic systems; if used on the pump side, pump flow must be shut off to reset the valve. The main stage orifice features a protective 150-micron stainless steel screen, and back pressure on tank port 2 adds directly to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. For corrosive environments, corrosion-resistant options are available with external stainless steel or zinc-nickel plating. The floating style construction reduces internal part binding due to installation torque or machining variations. This model fits into cavity T-16A, Series 3, with a capacity of up to 100 gpm (380 L/min) and operates under a maximum pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). It has a typical response time of approximately 25 ms and allows minimal leakage under specified conditions. Adjustment involves five full clockwise turns to increase settings, with specific torque requirements for installation and adjustment components. Notably used in applications like portable grain augers for safety mechanisms, this cartridge offers reliable performance but should not replace standard pilot-operated reliefs due to its slower response time.

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.
- All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- To reset valve, flow through the cartridge must cease.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Not suitable for use in load holding applications.
- Intended for use on the actuator side of the system as flow through the valve must cease for the valve to reset. If used on the pump side of a system, pump flow must be shut off for the valve to reset.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- Corrosion resistant cartridge valves are intended for use in corrosive environments and are identified by the model code suffix /AP for external stainless steel components, or /LH for external zinc-nickel plated components. See the CONFIGURATION section for all options. For further details, please see the Materials of Construction page located under TECH RESOURCES.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
