The Sun Hydraulics RQKBKEV (RQKBKEV) is a specialized kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. This valve automatically opens completely and remains open once the pressure at inlet port 1 surpasses the set threshold, facilitating an unrestricted flow path to tank port 2. The valve will stay open as long as the pressure at port 1 is greater than at port 2. To reset the valve, flow must stop, and pressure at port 2 must equal or exceed that at port 1. The RQKBKEV is physically and functionally interchangeable with other two-port relief cartridges of the same frame size, excluding pilot reliefs. It features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, making it unsuitable for load-holding applications. This cartridge is intended for use on the actuator side of systems; if used on the pump side, pump flow must be halted for resetting. Back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. The RQKBKEV incorporates corrosion-resistant design options identified by model code suffixes AP or LH for external stainless steel or zinc-nickel plated components, respectively. Its floating style construction minimizes internal binding risks due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. With a capacity of up to 200 gpm (760 L/min) and a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), this cartridge provides reliable performance with typical response times around 25 ms and minimal leakage rates under specified conditions. Adjustments can be made via an internal hex screw with specific torque requirements for installation and locknut settings. Notably used in applications like portable grain augers for silos, this kickdown relief helps prevent equipment damage by providing an escape route when unexpected blockages occur.

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

  • All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
  • To reset valve, flow through the cartridge must cease.
  • Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
  • Not suitable for use in load holding applications.
  • Intended for use on the actuator side of the system as flow through the valve must cease for the valve to reset. If used on the pump side of a system, pump flow must be shut off for the valve to reset.
  • Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
  • Corrosion resistant cartridge valves are intended for use in corrosive environments and are identified by the model code suffix /AP for external stainless steel components, or /LH for external zinc-nickel plated components. See the CONFIGURATION section for all options. For further details, please see the Materials of Construction page located under TECH RESOURCES.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
