The Sun Hydraulics RQKBLAN (RQKBLAN) is a kickdown relief cartridge designed to function similarly to a circuit breaker in hydraulic systems. When the pressure at inlet port 1 exceeds the valve's set threshold, it opens completely, allowing unrestricted flow from port 1 to tank port 2. The valve remains open as long as the inlet pressure surpasses the tank pressure. To reset, flow must stop between ports and pressures must equalize. This model is not suitable for load holding applications and is intended for actuator-side use since flow cessation is necessary for resetting. If used on the pump side, pump flow must be halted for reset. The cartridge features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. The RQKBLAN can handle up to 200 gpm (760 L/min) with a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). It has a typical response time of 25 ms and maximum leakage of 5 in\u00b3/min at 1000 psi (80 cc/min at 70 bar). Adjustments are made via an internal hex screw, with five turns needed to increase settings, while its installation torque ranges between 350-375 lbf ft (474-508 Nm). The valve weighs approximately 2.50 lb (1.15 kg) and uses Viton seals in its cartridge assembly. Ideal applications include scenarios where rapid pressure relief is crucial, such as preventing equipment damage or ensuring safety during mechanical failures. However, caution should be exercised regarding its suitability as a system relief due to potential overlap preventing false tripping compared to faster direct-acting relief valves.

Description

Kick-down relief cartridges act similar to a circuit breaker in an electrical system. The valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve settting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to tank (port 2). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.

All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).

Where would I use a kick-down relief?	One graphic example is on a portable grain auger for silos. When the farmer gets caught in the auger the kick-down relief trips and allows him to escape.
What are the tolerances on pressure settings for Sun's pressure control valves?	Pressure setting tolerances are listed in our Performance Data page. A link to this page can also be found in the Additional Resources tab of the applicable product page.
How big is a drop of hydraulic oil?	There are exactly 250 Sun drops in a cubic inch or 15 in a cc.
Can I use a kick-down relief for my system relief?	Maybe not. We build in a good amount of overlap in the kick-down reliefs to prevent false tripping. This means they are not as fast as our standard pilot-operated reliefs. A direct-acting relief valve set just above the kick-down relief valve would be good insurance.
Direct acting or pilot operated - what do I use?	Direct-acting valves are used to prevent over pressure, and pilot-operated valves are used to regulate pressure. If you are unsure, use a direct-acting valve. Sun's direct acting valves are very fast, dirt tolerant, stable, and robust. Sun's pilot-operated valves are moderately fast, they have a low pressure rise vs. flow curve, and they are easy to adjust.
