The Sun Hydraulics RVCALBN (RVCALBN) is a ventable, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed for precise pressure regulation in hydraulic systems. This normally closed valve activates when the inlet port pressure reaches the pre-set level, opening to the tank port to modulate flow and maintain desired pressure levels. The valve incorporates a vent port that allows for remote control by other pilot or 2-way valves, ensuring versatility in various applications. Known for its accuracy and smooth operation, it features low pressure rise versus flow and provides moderate response speeds. The RVCALBN can handle maximum pressures at the tank port, making it suitable for cross-port relief circuits; however, users should consider spool leakage in such configurations. It is not recommended for load-holding applications due to potential leakage issues. The main stage orifice is safeguarded by a 150-micron stainless steel screen to prevent contamination. Furthermore, cartridges with EPDM seals are intended for systems utilizing phosphate ester fluids and are incompatible with petroleum-based substances. This model supports a cavity size of T-11A and has a capacity of 15 gpm (60 L/min), with factory pressure settings established at 4 gpm (15 L/min). It operates at a maximum pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and features control pilot flow rates between 7-10 in\u00b3/min (0.11-0.16 L/min). The typical response time is approximately 10 ms, with maximum valve leakage rated at 2 in\u00b3/min under specified conditions. For installation, the valve requires a hex size of 7/8 inch (22.2 mm) and an installation torque range of 30-35 lbf ft (41-47 Nm). Adjustments are made using an internal hex screw measuring 5/32 inch (4 mm), while the locknut requires a torque of 80-90 lbf in (9-10 Nm). The unit weighs approximately .40 lb (.20 kg).

Ventable, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed pressure regulating valves. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to regulate the pressure. They provide a vent port (port 3) that connects between the main piston and pilot stage to provide for remote control by other pilot or 2-way valves. These valves are accurate, have low pressure rise vs. flow, they are smooth and quiet, and are moderately fast.
- A remote pilot relief on port 3 (vent) will control the valve below its own setting.
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
