The Sun Hydraulics RVCSKQN (RVCSKQN) is a ventable, pilot-operated, balanced poppet relief cartridge designed for precision pressure regulation. This normally closed valve activates when the inlet port pressure reaches a pre-set level, opening to the tank port and throttling flow to maintain consistent pressure. It includes a vent port for remote control via other pilot or 2-way valves, making it highly versatile in application. Known for its accuracy and smooth operation, the RVCSKQN offers low pressure rise versus flow and is relatively fast in response time, typically around 2 milliseconds. The cartridge is engineered to withstand common cavitation issues such as noise and manifold erosion due to its internal modulating mechanism. It can handle back pressure on the tank port at a 1:1 ratio with the valve setting and is suitable for load-holding applications. The valve accepts maximum pressure at port 2, making it ideal for cross-port relief circuits. Additionally, it features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen and incorporates Sun's floating style construction to prevent internal parts binding from excessive installation torque or machining variations. With EPDM seals specifically for phosphate ester fluid systems, exposure to petroleum-based fluids should be avoided as it could damage the seals. The RVCSKQN has an operating capacity of up to 15 gpm (60 L/min) with a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). Installation requires specific torques: valve installation torque ranges from 30-35 lbf ft (41-47 Nm), while locknut torque ranges from 80-90 lbf in (9-10 Nm). The cartridge weighs approximately .35 lb (0.15 kg) and offers easy adjustment with an internal hex screw size of 5/32 inches (4 mm).

Ventable, pilot-operated, balanced-poppet relief cartridges are normally closed pressure regulating valves. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to regulate the pressure. They provide a vent port (port 3) that connects between the main piston and pilot stage to provide for remote control by other pilot or 2-way valves. These valves are accurate, have low pressure rise vs. flow, they are smooth and quiet, and are moderately fast.
- Because the modulating occurs inside the cartridge, these valves are immune to most of the problems associated with cavitation, namely noise and manifold erosion.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits.
- A remote pilot relief on port 3 (vent) will control the valve below its own setting.
- Valve is relatively insensitive to varying oil temperatures and oil borne contamination.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Suitable for use in load holding applications.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
