The Sun Hydraulics RVCSLWV (RVCSLWV) is a ventable, pilot-operated, balanced-poppet relief cartridge designed to regulate pressure by opening to tank port 2 when inlet port 1 reaches the valve setting. This sophisticated valve features a vent port (port 3) for remote control via other pilot or two-way valves, ensuring precise pressure regulation with minimal noise and erosion due to cavitation. Notably accurate and smooth in operation, it accepts maximum pressure at port 2, making it suitable for cross-port relief circuits and load-holding applications. The valve's performance is resilient to variations in oil temperature and contamination, thanks to its robust design that includes a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen. The RVCSLWV incorporates Sun's floating style construction, reducing the risk of internal binding from installation torque or machining variations. It can handle a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) with a capacity of 15 gpm (60 L/min). The factory pressure settings are established at 4 gpm (15 L/min), with response times typically around 2 ms. The valve's adjustment allows for up to five clockwise turns to increase settings, featuring an internal hex screw size of 5/32 inches (4 mm), while the locknut hex size is 9/16 inches (15 mm), requiring a torque of 80-90 lbf-in (9-10 Nm). Weighing just .35 lb (.15 kg), this cartridge is compact yet highly effective in managing hydraulic systems. It should be noted that cartridges configured with EPDM seals are intended for phosphate ester fluids only; exposure to petroleum-based substances will damage these seals.

Ventable, pilot-operated, balanced-poppet relief cartridges are normally closed pressure regulating valves. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to regulate the pressure. They provide a vent port (port 3) that connects between the main piston and pilot stage to provide for remote control by other pilot or 2-way valves. These valves are accurate, have low pressure rise vs. flow, they are smooth and quiet, and are moderately fast.
- Because the modulating occurs inside the cartridge, these valves are immune to most of the problems associated with cavitation, namely noise and manifold erosion.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits.
- A remote pilot relief on port 3 (vent) will control the valve below its own setting.
- Valve is relatively insensitive to varying oil temperatures and oil borne contamination.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Suitable for use in load holding applications.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
