The Sun Hydraulics RVEAKLV (RVEAKLV) is a ventable, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed for precise pressure regulation in hydraulic systems. This normally closed valve opens to tank port 2 when the inlet pressure at port 1 reaches the pre-set threshold, effectively throttling flow to maintain desired pressure levels. It features an additional vent port (port 3) that allows for remote control via other pilot or two-way valves, enhancing its versatility. The valve is known for its accuracy, low pressure rise versus flow characteristics, smooth and quiet operation, and moderate response speed. The RVEAKLV model can handle maximum pressures at port 2 and is suitable for cross-port relief circuits; however, users should be aware of potential spool leakage in such applications. The main stage orifice is shielded by a robust 150-micron stainless steel screen. It's important to note that this valve is not recommended for load-holding applications due to potential leakage issues. Back pressure on tank port 2 affects the valve setting at a direct 1:1 ratio. The cartridge is compatible with EPDM seals for use with phosphate ester fluids but may be damaged by petroleum-based substances. Sun's floating style construction minimizes the risk of internal binding from excessive installation torque or machining discrepancies. Key specifications include a cavity type T-2A series with a capacity of up to 30 gpm (120 L/min), maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), and control pilot flow between 10–15 in³/min (0.16–0.25 L/min). The typical response time is approximately 10 ms, with maximum leakage set at three in³/min at 1000 psi (50 cc/min at 70 bar). Adjustments are made via an internal hex screw with specific torque requirements for installation and locknut adjustments. The model weighs approximately .70 lb (.30 kg) and uses Viton seal kits for maintenance.

Ventable, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed pressure regulating valves. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to regulate the pressure. They provide a vent port (port 3) that connects between the main piston and pilot stage to provide for remote control by other pilot or 2-way valves. These valves are accurate, have low pressure rise vs. flow, they are smooth and quiet, and are moderately fast.

• A remote pilot relief on port 3 (vent) will control the valve below its own setting.
• Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
• Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
• Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
• Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
• Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
• Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
