The Sun Hydraulics RVGSKQN (RVGSKQN) is a ventable, pilot-operated, balanced poppet relief cartridge designed for precise pressure regulation in hydraulic systems. It remains normally closed until the pressure at inlet port 1 reaches the preset valve setting, at which point it opens to tank port 2 and throttles flow to maintain the desired pressure. This valve features a vent port at port 3, allowing for remote control through other pilot or two-way valves. Known for its accuracy and low pressure rise versus flow, the RVGSKQN operates smoothly and quietly with moderate speed. The internal modulation within the cartridge makes it resistant to cavitation-related issues such as noise and manifold erosion. This model is particularly suitable for load-holding applications, provided that any valving on vent port 3 is zero leak. Cartridges with EPDM seals can be used in systems utilizing phosphate ester fluids but should not be exposed to petroleum-based substances as they could damage the seals. The valve can handle maximum pressure at port 2, making it applicable for cross-port relief circuits. Additionally, a remote pilot relief on port 3 can control the valve below its own setting. The RVGSKQN is relatively insensitive to changes in oil temperature and contamination, with a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen. Back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. Its construction minimizes internal part binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. Key specifications include a cavity size of T-17A Series 3, capacity of up to 50 gpm (200 L/min), maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), and typical response time of approximately 2 ms. The adjustment screw requires an internal hex size of 5/32 inches (4 mm), with a locknut torque specification between 80-90 lbf-in (9-10 Nm).

Ventable, pilot-operated, balanced-poppet relief cartridges are normally closed pressure regulating valves. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to regulate the pressure. They provide a vent port (port 3) that connects between the main piston and pilot stage to provide for remote control by other pilot or 2-way valves. These valves are accurate, have low pressure rise vs. flow, they are smooth and quiet, and are moderately fast.
- Because the modulating occurs inside the cartridge, these valves are immune to most of the problems associated with cavitation, namely noise and manifold erosion.
- Suitable for use in load holding applications, providing that any valving on the vent port (port 3) is zero leak.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits.
- A remote pilot relief on port 3 (vent) will control the valve below its own setting.
- Valve is relatively insensitive to varying oil temperatures and oil borne contamination.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
