The Sun Hydraulics RVIALAV (RVIALAV) is a ventable, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed as a normally closed pressure regulating valve. It activates when the inlet port 1 pressure reaches the valve setting, opening to tank port 2 and throttling flow to regulate pressure. This model features a vent port 3 for remote control by other pilot or two-way valves. Known for its accuracy and low pressure rise versus flow, it offers smooth, quiet operation with moderate response speed. The RVIALAV can handle maximum pressure at port 2, making it suitable for cross-port relief circuits; however, spool leakage should be considered in such applications. The main stage orifice is protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, and the relief valve setting must always exceed the pilot valve setting. It's not ideal for load-holding applications due to potential spool leakage. This cartridge incorporates Sun's floating style construction to reduce internal binding risks from excessive installation torque or machining variations. Configurable with EPDM seals for systems using phosphate ester fluids, exposure to petroleum-based fluids can damage these seals. It fits into cavity T-19A and offers a series 4 capacity of up to 120 gpm (480 L/min), with factory pressure settings established at 4 gpm (15 L/min). The maximum operating pressure is rated at 5000 psi (350 bar), with control pilot flow between 15–20 in³/min (0.25–0.33 L/min) and typical response time of around 10 ms. Maximum valve leakage stands at approximately 5 in³/min at 110 SUS (24 cSt) under conditions of up to 1000 psi (70 bar). Adjustment requires approximately five clockwise turns to increase settings, with specific torque requirements provided for installation and locknut adjustments. The model weighs about 3.10 lb (1.40 kg) and uses Viton seal kits like part number: 990019006 for maintenance or replacements.

Ventable, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed pressure regulating valves. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to regulate the pressure. They provide a vent port (port 3) that connects between the main piston and pilot stage to provide for remote control by other pilot or 2-way valves. These valves are accurate, have low pressure rise vs. flow, they are smooth and quiet, and are moderately fast.

• A remote pilot relief on port 3 (vent) will control the valve below its own setting.
• Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
• Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
• Relief valve setting must always be higher than pilot valve setting.
• Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
• Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
• Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
