The Sun Hydraulics SCIALAV (SCIALAV) is a direct-acting sequence valve with an integral reverse-flow check, designed to manage hydraulic flow in secondary circuits once the inlet pressure at port 1 surpasses the pre-set valve threshold. This model incorporates a check valve to facilitate reverse flow from port 2 back to port 1. The pressure setting effectively controls the pressure at port 1 in relation to the drain port 3, and all three-port sequence cartridges can be interchanged physically and functionally for a given frame size. While this valve features zero pilot flow, it is crucial that port 3 remains connected to maintain a proper pressure reference; blocking this port could lead to malfunction due to seal weepage. The pressure at port 3 adds directly to the valve setting on a one-to-one basis and should not exceed 5000 psi (350 bar). The SCIALAV is particularly suitable for load-holding applications and is compatible with systems using phosphate ester fluids when configured with EPDM seals. This configuration prevents damage from petroleum-based fluids or greases. The valve employs Sun's floating style construction, which minimizes internal binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations.
