The Sun Hydraulics SDHTCWV (SDHTCWV) is a pilot-operated, anti-shock relief cartridge designed to limit maximum system pressure and control the rate of pressure rise. This valve opens and ramps closed at a constant speed, unaffected by settings or flow variations. An adjustment screw allows users to set the maximum relief and minimum threshold settings. The external drain feature makes the valve insensitive to pressure at port 2, while modulating inside the cartridge helps prevent issues like cavitation, noise, and manifold erosion. The pilot flow increases as the inlet pressure at port 1 rises above the valve setting relative to port 3's drain pressure. While not suitable for sequencing cylinders or load-holding applications, this valve can accept maximum pressure at port 2, making it ideal for cross-port relief circuits. It is relatively insensitive to varying oil temperatures and contamination. The valve features a cavity size of T-17A with a series 3 capacity of up to 60 gpm (240 L/min) and can operate under pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar). It offers a typical response time of 2 ms with maximum leakage of 10 drops/min (0.7 cc/min) upon reseat. The pressure ramp-up time ranges from 300 to 500 ms. Adjustments can be made with five full clockwise turns for increasing settings, using an internal hex size of 5/32 inches (4 mm). Installation requires a torque between 150-160 lbf ft (203-217 Nm), while the locknut torque is between 80-90 lbf in (9-10 Nm). Weighing approximately 1.50 lb (0.70 kg), it incorporates Sun's floating style construction to reduce binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations in cavities/cartridges.

Pilot-operated, anti shock relief cartridges limit maximum system pressure and also limit the rate of pressure rise. The valve opens and then ramps closed at a constant speed, independent of settings and flows. The adjust screw determines the maximum (relief) setting and the minimum (threshold) setting. The external drain makes the valve insensitive to pressure at port 2.
- Because the modulating occurs inside the cartridge, these valves are immune to most of the problems associated with cavitation, namely noise and manifold erosion.
- Pilot flow continues to increase as the pressure at port 1 (inlet), relative to the pressure at port 3 (drain), rises above the valve setting.
- Not suitable for sequncing cylinders.
- Pressure at port 3 is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio and should not exceed 5000 psi (350 bar).
- Pressure settings are insensitive to back pressure at port 2.
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits.
- Valve is relatively insensitive to varying oil temperatures and oil borne contamination.
- Not suitable for use in load holding applications.
- When pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the threshold setting, the valve opens to tank (port 2). The pilot section moves forward at a steady rate, increasing the setting by compressing the pilot spring. Maximum setting is achieved when the pilot section reaches a mechanical stop.
- The main stage orifice is protected against contamination.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
