The Sun Hydraulics SQFBKBV (SQFBKBV) is a specialized kickdown sequence valve designed for hydraulic systems where it is crucial to maintain an open flow path once the inlet pressure at port 1 surpasses the pre-set valve threshold. This valve ensures unrestricted flow from port 1 to port 2 sequence, provided that the pressure at port 1 remains higher than that at port 2. To reset, the pressure at port 1 must drop below the set value, and flow must cease while ensuring that pressure at port 2 is equal to or greater than at port 1. The SQFBKBV valve features a protective main stage orifice with a stainless steel screen of 150 microns and is not recommended for load-holding applications. It incorporates Sun's floating style construction, which reduces internal binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. The valve has a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and can handle a capacity of up to 30 gpm (120 L/min). It responds typically within 25 ms and maintains minimal leakage under specified conditions. The adjustment mechanism allows for precise setting changes with five clockwise turns increasing the setting. Installation requires specific torque settings, including a valve installation torque of 45-50 lbf ft (61-68 Nm) and locknut torque of 80-90 lbf in (9-10 Nm). The SQFBKBV is designed for actuator-side applications where flow cessation enables resetting, making it unsuitable for pump-side installations unless pump flow can be halted. Its robust design ensures reliable performance in demanding environments while offering easy interchangeability with other three-port sequence cartridges in its series.

Kick-down sequence valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve setting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to port 2 (sequence). The pressure setting at port 1 is relative to the drain (port 3). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, pressure at port 1 must fall below the setting of the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease, and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.
- All 3 port sequence cartridges are physically and functionally interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Should not be used in load holding applications.
- The main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Pressure at port 3 is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio and should not exceed 5000 psi (350 bar).
- Intended for use on the actuator side of the system as flow through the valve must cease for the valve to reset. If used on the pump side of a system, pump flow must be shut off for the valve to reset.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
