The Sun Hydraulics SQJBKBN (SQJBKBN) is a kickdown sequence valve designed to provide an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to port 2 once the pressure at inlet port 1 exceeds the valve setting. This valve is ideal for applications where flow needs to be sustained without restriction when certain pressure conditions are met. It incorporates Sun's floating style construction, minimizing the risk of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. The main stage orifice is safeguarded by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, ensuring durability and reliability. This sequence valve is not recommended for load holding applications and should be used on the actuator side of a system, as flow must cease for the valve to reset. If used on the pump side, pump flow must be stopped for reset. With a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and a capacity of 120 gpm (480 L/min), it provides robust performance in demanding environments. The factory pressure settings are established at the kickdown point, with a typical response time of 25 ms. The SQJBKBN features an adjustment mechanism with up to five clockwise turns to increase settings, while maintaining minimal leakage at maximum valve leakage rates of 5 in³/min (80 cc/min) at 110 SUS (24 cSt). Installation requires specific torque values: valve installation torque ranges from 350–375 lbf ft (474–508 Nm), and locknut torque between 80–90 lbf in (9–10 Nm). The valve's physical dimensions include a hex size of 1-5/8 inches (41.3 mm) and an internal hex size adjustment screw of 5/32 inches (4 mm). Weighing approximately 3.10 lb (1.40 kg), this model comes with a Viton seal kit option under part number 990019006 for enhanced compatibility with various hydraulic fluids and temperatures.

Kick-down sequence valves will kick completely open and remain open once the pressure at the inlet (port 1) exceeds the valve setting, creating an unrestricted flow path from port 1 to port 2 (sequence). The pressure setting at port 1 is relative to the drain (port 3). The valve remains open as long as the pressure at port 1 exceeds the pressure at port 2. To reset the valve, pressure at port 1 must fall below the setting of the valve, flow from port 1 to port 2 must cease, and pressure at port 2 must be equal to or greater than the pressure at port 1.
- All 3 port sequence cartridges are physically and functionally interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Should not be used in load holding applications.
- The main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Pressure at port 3 is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio and should not exceed 5000 psi (350 bar).
- Intended for use on the actuator side of the system as flow through the valve must cease for the valve to reset. If used on the pump side of a system, pump flow must be shut off for the valve to reset.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
